News:
Construction on Main Street West
April 1, 2005 – The City of Hamilton, as part of its ongoing commitment to upgrading infrastructure, will be improving municipal services on Main Street West, between Cootes Drive and Gary Avenue.
Construction will begin on April 4th, 2005 and is to be completed by the end of August 2005. The contract has been awarded to Lafarge Construction.
Improvements to Main Street include road widening, resurfacing and sidewalk reconstruction. These works will be undertaken concurrently with the elimination of the two existing McMaster University/Hospital entrances onto Main Street and their realignment into a single entrance at the Emerson Street intersection. Upgrading infrastructure on city streets now, will improve traffic flow and ensure safe travel in the future. The work is being undertaken to protect the long-term value of the City's transportation assets.
During construction, vehicular access on Main Street will have lane restrictions. Local and emergency access will be maintained during these closures. Signs will be posted as necessary.
At the same time, McMaster University will construct a new Main Street entrance onto campus. For more information on this project, see http://fhs.mcmaster.ca/mainstreet/.
