News:
New pedestrian activated stoplight
– Cootes Drive at Sanders Blvd.
September 26, 2005
The pedestrian/cyclist crossing of Cootes Drive at Sanders Blvd. is heavily used, primarily by students attending McMaster University , but also by local residents and is an important component of the City's bike route system. Recently, the location has received attention regarding the safety of road users crossing at the study site.
The City recently conducted a safety review and as a result of the study, a new pedestrian activated light was installed in early September where the extension of Sanders Blvd. intersects with Cootes Drive .
The signal will use standard red/amber/green signals to control vehicle traffic on Cootes and standard walk/don't walk symbols to control pedestrian traffic crossing Cootes. The operation will be push-button activated and co-ordinated with signals at Main and Cootes.
